I went through a lot of question on different forums about staying motivated, found out that most of the people need some kind of “Magical Pill” to stay motivated. Most of the people are looking for a way to stay motivated for a workout, studying or growing a business when things don’t work out. This blog is about staying motivated to learn new skills, but this can be applied to any kind of area where you need the motivation.
This is actually very easy to answer. Most of the people struggle with learning new skills or doing something new because they are kinda forced to do it. Usually, someone forces you to learn or do something new even you don’t want it, but sometimes not a person but situation forces you to do it. Automatically your mind is trying to protect you from something that you don’t want to do and drops your energy as low as possible so you will be able to find an excuse.
Think about a fat person going to a doctor and the doctors tell that person to lose weight fast. At some point probably that person wished to lose weight, but he or she feels so good not moving and eating favorite snacks that The losing weight process could be “later”. Now, when a doctor tells that person to lose weight, her or his mind automatically rejects that opinion and feels like someone is forcing him or her to lose weight.
Another example. When you are starting a new job, which you are not really passionate about but you gotta work “somewhere” to eat and pay the bills you are forced to learn things that will help you with doing the tasks. Well, you have to learn it because if you don’t you will lose your job, so you learn new skills but it’s very tiring for you and you start to think, why the hell I am here.
The biggest mistake people make is to focus on the skills. People focus only on learning this new thing bur most of the times they don’t even know for what they have to learn it.
The best way to stay motivated to learn new things is to focus on the goal, on the result, you want to achieve. You might say, how come on I already know it. Well, many people know it but still don’t do it. This is very simple and yeah probably most of the people know it but maybe 15% actually do it.
The vision is the key to staying motivated. You can’t just focus on the task or the thing you are currently learning. You need to know what you will gain when you learn a new skill or when you accomplish the task. It comes down to the ever area of life. Losing weight, work, business, family life etc.
When you want to lose weight, you shouldn’t think “I need to loose weight, I need to loose weight“. Think why you need to lose weight. Maybe you want you just want to be healthier or maybe you want to go to the beach and you don’t want to be embarrassed by your big stomach. If you are a guy, think about those sexy girls who will look at your body when you take the shirt off. If you are female, also think about all the girls who will look at you and whisper “wish to have a body like her’s”.
Same with the business. Don’t think “I need to make more profit”, “I need to succeed“. The question is, why you need to succeed or make more profits? Who are you going to help if you achieve it? Maybe your family and friends finally will accept you if you prove that you could do it.
There could me millions of reasons and everybody have different once. So find the drive, find what you are fighting for. Forget about the task or about that you need to learn new skill. These are just small milestones on your path to the greatness.
