Wondering how to stop bad habits?
To be able to break the unhealthy habits you need to first find the root of the habit.
Recently I realized that still, I have a lot of habits that stop me from being who I really am. The most terrible thing is that those things are habits so often I don’t even realize them. For example, whenever I am standing and talking to somebody I hold my arms crossed or I have 1 hand in a pocket. It’s a habit that I got when I was about 12 years old and I didn’t feel confident about what I am saying.
Many people who have their arms hands crossed on the chest while standing and talking to someone think that it looks cool, they feel more comfortable in that position or they do it because it became their habit. When you learn a little bit about body language you will know that standing in that position doesn’t show that you are a confident person. It shows the exact opposite thing. It shows that you are not confident and that can impact your business when you are talking to some business owner. When you cross your arms it looks like you are creating a Defensive Shield to protect yourself from people’s opinion etc.

Anyway, these are just 2 of couple more habits that I noticed recently. I am working to overcome those unhealthy habits and it’s going very well.
In the past, I learned how to stop bad habits and I could change many of them. When I changed my old habits my life started to change, business started to change as well. So I want to help you with overcoming habits. Check the tips below so you can set yourself free by overcoming unhealthy habits.
First of all, you can’t change all habits at the same time because you will get crazy and you will screw up. The important thing is to change 1 habit at a time. How to stop bad habits? Well, you need to find a root of it. In most cases, you get the bad or unhealthy habits when you are really young. Some the habits come from your own experience in the past but some you learn from people who were taking care of you when you were a child.

For example, in my home, it was not normal to have a decent conversation with my family. Everyone was eating lunch and dinner in the separate rooms and we didn’t spend that much time together. When my parents were talking to each other or to me, my brother or sister it was only when it was a serious topic, like school, health etc.
Except that, we didn’t talk much. For a long time, I didn’t realize that this kind of past created a habit in me of not looking at people’s eyes when talking. To be honest, it’s rude and it looks like you are not listening when you are not looking at someone’s eyes when talking, but this became my normal. I was a person that tried to run away when I was about to talk to someone, not only run away by eyes but I really felt uncomfortable talking.
My wife often got annoyed when I was trying to cut off the conversation or when I was not looking at her when she was telling me something. Well, I would get pissed if someone acts that they don’t listen but for a long time I couldn’t stop it myself.
I started to look for the answer “how to stop bad habits”. Then I focus when created that terrible and rude habit. Above I just explained what created it, so it was easier to change it. Simply I didn’t want to be like my parents. I want a different life for myself and muy family, so if I act like my parents than our life will not be much different than theirs. And I gotta tell you, my parents were struggling financially and emotionally a lot.
All habits have some good and bad sides. If you notice or when someone tells you that you should change something it means the habit has more bad sides than good sides. That’s a clear sign. You should focus on fixing that habit.
Let’s go back for example to the arm crossing habit. The good side is that crossing my arms make me feel safe. I also can rest my arms as standing.
The bad side of it, first of all, it shows that I am not confident. Sometimes it might annoy people. Instead of showing the business posture it subconsciously shows people that I am a weak person. It also shows me that I am not changing and that I act like my parents.
There could be many more bad sides of this 1 habit, in few seconds I found like 5 bad sides of it and only 2 good sides. This is a clear sign that I need to change this habit right away.
If you see your life and business results and if you find out what gave your those results or failures you might be able to find some of your unhealthy habits. However, it will take you so long to find it. Some of the habits no matter what it’s impossible to find by ourselves.
The best way to find and to start overcoming bad habits is to ask someone close to you about you. Yes, it’s uncomfortable as hell to listen to yourself from someone’s mouth but it’s a must thing if you want to change your bad habits and if you want to change your life.
Just simply ask a person who is close to you “what kind of habits you noticed in me”. Believe me or not, but you will be able to hear things you never thought about.
WARNING! When someone tells your habits, your mind will start to protect you. You will start to make a bunch of excuses and your mind will create stories to make you feel “Good” about that habits. Instead of listening to your inner voice that tells you all the BS focus on what your friend or family member tells you. This is the best way to find your the worse habits. When you find unhealthy habits you can eliminate them.
Don’t be afraid to ask, because you will never see yourself so others see you. When you think about yourself you can’t notice bad things. This can cause a lot of struggle in life and business. If you want a change, if you want better results and if you want to achieve goals, ask someone about your habits, handle the pain and focus on change. Then your life will never be the same again!
